Civil rights legend of the Little Rock Nine, Minnie Jean Brown Trickey, once said, “When we challenge what we know to be morally wrong, we grow as a society.” The atrocities endured by Black Americans during slavery must remain at the forefront of American History to ensure conversations and celebrations around Juneteenth are rooted in truth. We will learn about the history of Juneteenth and how an old fight for freedom is connected to the modern struggle for rights and dignity with award-winning scholar and published historian Dr. Peniel E. Joseph. Dr. Joseph’s book, The Third Reconstruction, received the 2023 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Book Award
