REPRESENTING THE HOLOCAUST AND SURVIVOR STORIES THROUGH DANCE
Join dance historian Dr. Rebecca Rossen* In dialoque with Stephen Mills, creator/choreographer of Light/ The Holocaust & Humanity Project. Dr. Rossen will discuss three choreographer case studies (BilL T. Jones. Reka Szabo and Stephen Mills) of what she terms “testimony dance,” dance performances based on the oral histories of Holocaust survivors that archive survivor stories while situating audience members as witnesses. Mills and Rossen will conclude with a discussion about the process of making Light/ The Holocaust & Humanity Project and its 17-year impact.
*Dr. Rossen is Associate Professor and Head of the Performance as Public Practice Program in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin.
