Margo Glantz, the iconic figure of Mexican letters, will be appearing in person at UT in November.

The recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees, Margo Glantz has won recognition as a cultural journalist, an academic, and a creative writer. She holds a doctorate in literature from the Sorbonne and for over fifty years served on the faculty of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

She was the daughter of the Yiddish poet Jacobo Glantz. Her best known book, the 1981 Las genealogías (English translation The Family Tree) recreates the lives of her parents and tells the story of the Ashkenazi community of Mexico City starting in the 1920s.

At UT, Margo Glantz will engage in a wide-ranging dialogue with faculty members from Latin American Studies and Jewish Studies and field questions from the audience.
