SUMMARY:JDAIM Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:February is Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM). Founded in 2009\, JDAIM is a global initiative that raises awareness\, fosters acceptance\, and promotes the full inclusion of people with disabilities in Jewish life. \nRecently\, Matan published a study\,  Closing the Inclusion Gap: A Report on Disability and Belonging in Jewish Life\, which revealed widespread challenges across the Jewish community in creating accessible and inclusive spaces for people with disabilities. Despite good intentions and a desire to foster belonging\, Jewish spaces continue to struggle to provide appropriate access and accommodation — but we can change this! \nIn honor of JDAIM\, Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service has invited a professional in disability inclusion –working outside of the Jewish communal space — to facilitate an unbiased community conversation around where we are today\, where we could improve going forward\, and actionable next (or first) steps our organizations can take. Through guided discussion and conversational prompts\, we will operate as a Jewish communal “think tank” to share ideas\, workshop solutions to shared challenges\, and walk away with enhanced clarity on what we can do in 2026 to improve inclusion and accessibility in Jewish spaces.

SUMMARY:Death Over Donuts
DESCRIPTION:Our uniting truth is that every single one of us will die. Despite this fact\, our culture shies away from acknowledging it\, making everything—from discussions on end-of-life medical wishes to expressions of what we want our memorial services to look like—feel morbid and sometimes downright scary. But these conversations don’t need to feel this way! Join us for an evening of discussion and connection around what it means to you to have a “good death.” What do you wish for yourself and for those you love most? What conversations can you be starting with loved ones today to ensure that they and you receive the care we all truly deserve at the end of our lives? All are welcome! \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:AJA Parent Education Event Feb. 27 - Joyful Rigor with Dr. Karyn Rayburn
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to a special parent education event and reception on February 27 from 8:45-9:45am with AJA’s incoming head of school. Dr. Karyn Rayburn: Joyful Rigor: Cultivating Resilience\, Belonging\, and Growth. PleaseRSVP HERE. \nDr. Rayburn will present and lead a discussion on how schools can blend academic challenge with genuine joy. She will highlight how AJA already provides strong relationships\, a deep sense of belonging\, and a commitment to meaningful learning which sets the stage for what she calls joyful rigor. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nPractical Strategies: Learn actionable tips\, such as establishing solid routines and supporting your child during moments of change\, that you can immediately apply at home.\n\n\nResearch and Real-Life Insights: Drawing on current child development research and my own years as a school leader\, Dr. Rayburn will share examples that highlight how clear teaching practices and values-driven expectations foster resilience and celebrate every learning milestone.\n\n  \n\nCommunity-Focused Discussion: This is not just a presentation; it is a chance to connect with fellow parents and reaffirm that the school community not only challenges students but also nurtures their spirit every day.\n\nDr. Rayburn hopes that attendees will see how joyful rigor is not just an idea but a way of life that helps children embrace challenges\, discover their strengths\, and find delight in learning at every step.
