(Open only to currently enrolled students)
JUNE 5 – JUNE 7
Get ready to embark on some summer voyages! Adventure is just around the corner during every session’s interactive trek – inventions, discoveries, hypotheses, creative explorations…the imaginative list is endless. Start the summer with a short Pre-Camp session where children will have three fun-filled days preparing for their journeys! What to bring? What to do? So many preparations! You won’t want to miss this trip!
JUNE 12 – JUNE 23
Tomorrow morning before we depart, I intend to land and see what can be found in the neighborhood." - Christopher Columbus.
Campers will step into the shoes of past and present explorers. From voyages across the Atlantic to missions in space, campers will use their "passports" to travel by water, air, or land and search for places to settle! This session will integrate cross-curricular topics as the campers utilize compasses, graphs, and maps to encourage cooperative math, language arts, science, history, geography, and art skills.
"Book" Your Travels
JUNE 26 – JULY 7 (no camp on July 4th)
There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
What direction will our "passports" take us while traveling on this adventurous journey? Campers will follow a path through different genres of literature such as Fairy tales & Folklore, Sports, Nature, Mystery, Science, Biography, Hobbies & Crafts, and Adventure. They will delve into their favorite authors and topics as we foster their love of reading! The children will be given the opportunity to write their own book incorporating pictures and documentation of their activities during this fun and interactive two-week session.
I Dig Archeology!
JULY 10 – JULY 21
It's not what you find, it's what you find out." - David Hurst Thomas
There is plenty of excitement to go around when analyzing artifacts - jar handles, a clay jug and bangles, for example, take on new meanings as campers figure out the purpose behind these old pieces of pottery and colorful tiles. Our " passports" will take campers on another adventure to discover the fascinating science of archeology through learning environments that encourage play and exploration in the natural world. campers will use shovels brushes, sifters, and hammers to unearth coins, bones, and artifacts. This two-week session will encourage and provide opportunities for children to construct their own surroundings, design tools and materials, develop the necessary give-and-take in social relationships, and solve problems as individuals and part of a team!
Spark of Genius
JULY 24 – AUGUST 4
To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk." - Thomas A. Edison
Because of their natural curiosity within, we know each child has the potential to become creative thinkers! During this two-week session, campers will have the opportunity to gather information, develop ideas, and "invent" a new, useful item that fills a need or creates a different way of doing something. Perhaps on this voyage of discovery, our "passports" will direct our steps and encourage the "spark of genius" in all of us - both individually and as part of a team!
World of Flavours
AUGUST 7 – AUGUST 18
The measure of achievement is not winning awards. It's doing something that you appreciate, something you believe is worthwhile." - Julia Child
Look out tastebuds… you will take an exciting journey as campers explore different cultures and food traditions from around the globe during this two-week session. Campers will design their own flags, banners, passports, and menus while deciding which healthy ethnic foods they would like to prepare! They will experiment and make discoveries with ingredients and spices in a variety of sensory ways while measuring, creating art, making comparisons, and working in a group. On "International Food Day," all Camp Gan Kef campers will gather together and have the opportunity to share in this delicious adventure!
