Pre-Camp | June 3 – 5

Super Hero Sensation Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. – Ralph Waldo Emmerson  Get ready for some “Razzle Dazzle” as your camper gets ready to fly into a summer of Super Heros with Values! What greater gift can we give to our children than planting the seeds of life-long values? Each Camp Gan Kef Session will be chock full of amazing and character-building activities built on respect, courage, kindness, responsibility, service, and more!  Everything will be presented in a fun and interactive way – centered around our value-clad, engaging characters. Let your young superhero join us, as we band together to change the world – one good deed at a time!

Session A | June 11 – 21
Session A | Week 1 Only (June 11 – 14)
Session A | Week 2 Only (June 17 – 21)

“Captain Olam”: “If you ‘will it’ it is not a dream…”  –  Theodor Herzl. “Captain Olam” (world) will lead your YOUNG TINKERER through exercises and activities using recyclables to Repair the World (Tikkun Olam)! Each of our tinkerers will take time to look around and discover how we can help the environment. From recycling to planting, to creating and sharing a hug… what will your child make to help better the world? …an invention for the garden, for home, or for the classroom? What recyclable materials will they combine with their dreams for their unique creation? Join us to find out!

Session B | June 24 – July 5
Session B | Week 1 Only (June 24 – 28)
Session B | Week 2 Only (July 1 – 5)

“Iron Gibor”: “All fine architectural values are human values, else not valuable.”  – Frank Lloyd Wright. “Iron Gibor” (hero) is the superhero that will help teach your YOUNG DESIGNER the values of courage and wisdom. Where and how do our campers show these values? …in the classroom, on the playground, at home, and around town as they practice Kadima or move onwards – a word synonymous with courage and leadership! This iron-clad session gives the children an opportunity to share their stories of courage and discover that wisdom underlies all of our creative ideas. They will use “loose parts” to design and build robots that reflect their personal stories and concretely show their ideas.

Session C | July 8 – 19
Session C | Week 1 Only (July 8 – 12)
Session C | Week 2 Only (July 15 – 19)

“Leader Lev”: “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return.” – Nelson Mandela. “Leader Lev” (heart) is one who demonstrates kindness and friendship from the heart – leading your YOUNG PHILANTHROPIST to mitzvah projects that help others. While earning individual and group friendship heart badges, your campers will have multiple chances to lead new and old friends while creating their own special cape or badge sash! Join us as the campers find joy through giving in this enlightening session full of specific “leadership jobs” and chances to make First Aid Kits to give to the homeless.

Session D | July 22 – August 2
Session D | Week 1 Only (July 22 – 26)
Session D | Week 2 Only (July 29 – August 2)

“Shalom Hero”: “To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now.” – Fred Rogers, “Mr. Rogers”. “Shalom Hero” (peace) brings justice and peace with each and every step to your YOUNG AMBASSADOR. This session, your camper will learn to walk in these same shoes while practicing Mindfulness and “Shalom Bayit” or family peace/harmony – at home and at Camp Gan Kef. They will learn that fair means what is right for each of their friends and that peace means learning to be a problem-solver. These integral “pieces” for peace will include making a Shalom (peace) mobile and mat to use whenever and wherever negotiation skills are needed!

Session E | August 5 – 16
Session E | Week 1 Only (August 5 – 9)
Session E | Week 2 Only (August 12 – 16)

“Super Sportiviyut”: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Ghandi. Super Sportiviyut (sportsmanship) is this Session's superhero who will guide your YOUNG ATHLETES through the obstacle course of Sh’mirat Haguf or through the ways of taking care of our bodies! Your camper will have opportunities to practice being a leader and taking turns sharing strengths, as each age group will make an obstacle course for their friends. A wise superhero learns that everyone has strengths to share and everyone needs help from others – all culminating in a chance to show each at a fun Field Day!
