Mitzvah Knitters

1st & 3rd Friday | 10 AM

Give back to our community by volunteering your time and talent at the J! If you knit or crochet, or want to learn how, this is the place to be! Projects vary each season and blankets, stuffed animals, hats and scarves are given to those who are less fortunate. Materials are provided. The Mitzvah Knitters will meet at B’Nai Abraham.

Simcha Readers Theater


Learn the art of dramatic storytelling. Whether childhood stories, tales from your grandparents, fictional imaginations, folktales or tall tales. Learn how to organize and tell a story verbally and in writing, connect with your audience, and bring your story to life. Class led by Sue Bilich and Dianne Dorman. 

Life of the NY Times


This is an informal and fun conversation about the New York Times where you will look over the shoulders of various reporters, columnists and opinion writers at one of the world’s best newspapers. Join the team watching the paper that has gone digital to become a tough-talking, inclusive citizen of the world. Led by Abby Kenigsberg. (Subscription not required).

News & Schmooze

Mondays | 10 AM

Join in on the conversation. Come discuss local, national, and international news and keep up with what’s happening. Participants are welcome to bring in newspaper articles or research a topic of interest to share with the group.

The Writers


“The Writers” is an ongoing writing group that meets bi-monthly. The group’s key interest is writing plays, but it welcomes writers who want to write monologues, screenplays, sketch comedy, etc. and who would like to contribute creatively to this serious group.

Flex Your Brain

Thursdays | 10 AM

Join us for this fun and fast-paced hour-long class. This class is meant to keep your brain strong and flexible with individual and group games and challenges. Gameplay can serve a critical role in maintaining and even improving brain power in older adults.

Online Workout

Fusion Aerobics

Monday-Friday | 12 PM

This online class is a combination of low and moderate intensity aerobic exercises, weight-based resistance training, body-weight exercises, floor work, abs and stretching to improve overall fitness, balance and coordination for adults age 60 and better. Advanced classes will be faster-paced and will include additional physical challenges, such as lunges and squats.

Monthly Shabbat

Fridays | 12 PM

Join us virtually to celebrate and bring in Shabbat. Our monthly gatherings are lead by local clergy and Shalom Austin staff, and are hosted virtually on Zoom. Please register in advance.

The Shalom Austin Facebook page hosts large community events, but did you know there’s an Adult Programs group with its own posts and events too? You can join this, and lots of other Shalom Austin groups. The JCC Austin Fitness Community is also popular. It offers 25+ classes every week, including 2 classes every day for seniors.
