What You Need to Know

  • The J will be open to members only during Step One. No guests please. If you'd like to join the J, please click here.
  • Entrance to the J will be through the door by the pool. The main entrance will be for events and special programs only.
  • Wellness screenings are required to enter the building.
  • Masks will be required at all times indoors.
  • Reservations are required. Reservations will be limited to one per member per day. Can't make it? Please remember to cancel so someone else can have that space.
  • Please bring your own towel(s) and small sweat towels. Towel service is currently suspended.
  • Lockers and showers will be closed. Please limit the belongings you bring to the J.
  • Please bring your own water. Water fountains will be closed, but water will be available for purchase at the vending machines.
  • Kids Club will be closed during Step One.
  • Due to our current health and safety protocols, we ask that all members 15-years-old and younger have a parent or a responsible adult with them when they use the facilities.

Reservations

For your safety, space will be limited at the J but our new online reservation system will make it easy to ensure there's a spot for you when you are ready to come in. No one is allowed in the center without a reservation, and space is expected to fill up, so please book your spot ahead of time online. Reservations are first come, first serve and limited to one per member per day. If you can't make it, please remember to cancel so someone else can have your space.

Terms of Service Updates

As part of our reopening effort, we have updated the agreements we require for our memberships. Our updated Terms of Service includes the Liability Waiver, COVID-19 Addendum, Code of Conduct, and Membership / Sports & Fitness Complex Policies.

At your earliest convenience, please review the agreement linked below and acknowledge it by signing. You will not be able to check in at our facility until we have obtained a signature.

If you do not yet have a key tag, we can help you sign at the Welcome Desk when you arrive.


Fitness Center Information

Our fitness equipment has been spread throughout the fitness center and gymnasium to ensure maximum space for social distancing.

There is no time limit to fitness center or nature trail reservations as long as capacity allows.

Each room has a designated room capacity, but we are not limiting members to specific spaces. Please be cognizant of the posted room occupancy, and adhere to all guidelines and population limits.

Pool Information

All pool reservations start at 10 minutes after the hour and end on the hour to allow for 10 minutes of cleaning, sanitation, and lane assignments. Please watch your time so the next set of reservations can begin on time.

Our pool is very popular right now. To give everyone a chance to swim, we ask that you please limit your reservations each week: 3 for lap swimming, 2 for family swim. If you need to cancel, please do so no less than 2 hours in advance so other members can enjoy the pool.

Helpful hints: Reservations open 7 days in advance at midnight. It is common for cancellations to occur the night before or even the day of a reservation, so check austinjcc.setmore.com often. There are limited opportunities to pick up no-show lanes. Bring a swim bag to your next fitness center reservation - you never know!

Outdoor Spaces

The nature trail and fields is an excellent place to break a sweat without a mask or spend time with your family. An outdoor space reservation does NOT allow for inside access. You will still check in at the welcome desk, but please do not loiter to keep room for members who reserved the fitness center. We will have a star placed on your wristband to denote you are an outside only reservation.

Nature Trail
If you are reserving space in the fitness center, you may also use the nature trail during your allotted time.

Upper Field
When not reserved for fitness classes, our upper field is a great place for one family at a time to stretch their legs with a casual game of soccer

Lower Field
The Lower Field is reserved for one family at a time. It's sized well for a game or kickball or throwing a frisbee


Health and Safety Protocols

You are the first line of defense in keeping our community healthy.

Health Screening by Safety Ambassador

All members and staff will be asked to have their temperature checked, complete a brief health questionnaire, and provide their reservation confirmation before entering the building.

If you have a fever of 100.4 or higher or you answer yes to any of the questions, you will not be permitted to enter the building. Members will be able to request a retake of their temperature if the reading seems inaccurate.  You can return when you have been fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for 72 hours.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or otherwise feel unwell, we ask that you stay home.



Masks

All staff and members will be required to wear masks while indoors during Step One. Social distance does not preclude the necessity of wearing a mask. Masks may become optional during Step Two.

Sanitizing Standards

After using equipment, members will be asked to clean it with Virex disinfectant wipes provided by the JCC.

Staff will clean throughout the day, including 30-minute deep cleanings three times a day.

Adults & Children

We will limit exposure by keeping indoor adult and child activities separate. Families who sign up for swim or outdoor space must remain together.

Each room will have a clearly marked occupancy maximum to help ensure social distancing.

What's Next?

The Shalom Austin reopening plan is outlined below. The steps and time frames are subject to change depending on the ongoing review of data, governmental and medical recommendations and what is happening in the community.  

Reopening Step 1

 

STEP ONE

June 15

We are reopening the Shalom Austin JCC to members - with adjusted hours, limited capacity, a reservation system, and new health and safety procedures.

 

The following services will be available:

  • Fitness Center including cardio machines and weights
  • Personal training
  • Pool 
  • Nature trail 
  • Community garden
  • Some group exercise classes (TBD)

 

Reopening Step 2

STEP TWO

June-July

In June and July, we aim to start offering summer camp (ECP and K-5) online and in-person.

Other programs will reopen in some capacity in the future. We will continue to review guidelines from the CDC and national, state and local officials and determine when it is safe to begin Step Three.

Frequently Asked Questions


Can I bring a guest?

During Step One, the Sports & Fitness Complex and programs are open to active members only. If you know someone who would like to join, CLICK HERE

Can I use the locker rooms and other amenities?

The lockers rooms are available only for sinks and restrooms. The showers, lockers, whirlpool and dry sauna are closed.

Towel service, ball checkout, and locks are temporarily suspended. Please bring your own towels, but leave bulky bags in your car or at home. We will have small cubbies available for personal items like keys or small purses. If you need access your locker and retrieve the contents, please contact Susannah Wilcox

If you have an all-inclusive subscription for amenities, you will not be charged until we resume services.

When can I play basketball and pickleball?

Teams sports are not allowed during Step One. We miss them, too, and will continue to keep you updated as to when you can expect them to resume.

When will JCamps and the ECP reopen?

Summer Camp will begin on July 6. At that time, we will keep campers separate from the member areas of the sports & fitness complex.

When do swim lessons start?

Private coaching with Coach Gordon begins on June 15. For more information, click here. Private swim lessons will begin in Step Two of our reopening process.

When will the JCC be open longer?

We will expand our hours of operation as it becomes safe and reasonable to do so. 

When will the JCC begin charging membership dues?

If you have been donating your membership dues during this time, THANK YOU. We will continue to recognize your dues as a donation to the Sustainability Fund through June. We will begin to charge your membership on July 1. The total amount of your support during our closure will be included in a tax donation letter mailed to you in January reflecting all your support of Shalom Austin in 2020. 


If your membership has been frozen, we will reactivate it on July 1. You are still welcome to use the JCC Sports & Fitness Complex beginning June 15.
