Pool Closure Announcement

As a necessary step to begin construction on our exciting new Rochelle & Stanley Ferdman Family Aquatic Center, we will be closing the pool beginning Monday, November 2, 2020 until summer 2021. 

The fitness center, group fitness classes, gymnasium and Gan Yaniv Nature Trail will remain open during this time, and we hope to see you there!

New Entrance

During construction, beginning November 2, we will have a new entrance for the fitness center through the main JCC doors by the flag poles


As indicated on the map below, the new entrance will have two separate walkways to ensure adult JCC members and children enter safely and keep socially distant from other members and children who will be sharing the walkway. Please follow the signs and enter on the left side of the walkway straight into the main JCC doors. The right side is reserved for youth program access. 


For optimal parking to access the new fitness center entrance, please use the main parking lot east of the circle drive, as indicated on the map below.  


You will still complete a health screening and check-in with your member key tag at our new welcome desk just inside the main entrance.  


You will still have access to all of your usual equipment and spaces! 



What You Need to Know

  • The J will be open to members only during Step One. No guests please. If you'd like to join the J, please click here.
  • Entrance to the J will be through the door by the pool. The main entrance will be for events and special programs only.
  • Wellness screenings are required to enter the building.
  • Masks will be required at all times indoors.
  • Reservations are required. Reservations will be limited to one per member per day. Can't make it? Please remember to cancel so someone else can have that space.
  • Please bring your own towel(s) and small sweat towels. Towel service is currently suspended.
  • Lockers and showers will be closed. Please limit the belongings you bring to the J.
  • Kids Club Babysitting is currently closed. Looking for childcare options? Contact our Early Childhood Program.
  • Due to our current health and safety protocols, we ask that all members 15-years-old and younger have a parent or a responsible adult with them when they use the facilities.


For your safety, space will be limited at the J but our new online reservation system will make it easy to ensure there's a spot for you when you are ready to come in. Please book your spot ahead of time online. Reservations are first come, first serve and limited to one per member per day. If you can't make it, please remember to cancel so someone else can have your space.

Terms of Service Updates

As part of our reopening effort, we have updated the agreements we require for our memberships. Our updated Terms of Service includes the Liability Waiver, COVID-19 Addendum, Code of Conduct, and Membership / Sports & Fitness Complex Policies.

At your earliest convenience, please review the agreement linked below and acknowledge it by signing. You will not be able to check in at our facility until we have obtained a signature.

If you do not yet have a key tag, we can help you sign at the Welcome Desk when you arrive.

Fitness Center Information

Our fitness equipment has been spread throughout the fitness center and gymnasium to ensure maximum space for social distancing.

There is no time limit to fitness center or nature trail reservations as long as capacity allows.

Each room has a designated room capacity, but we are not limiting members to specific spaces. Please be cognizant of the posted room occupancy, and adhere to all guidelines and population limits.

Outdoor Spaces

The beautiful outdoor crushed granite jogging trail winds its way through woods and past the meditation garden. It is a great place to walk or jog while maintaining social distance! The Gan Yaniv loop is .25 miles in length. Please stay on the path and not cross any fences or barriers that are erected.

When you arrive, stop at the guard booth as you enter campus and let the security officer know you are arriving for your nature trail reservation. For easy access, park in the spaces alongside the fence near the guard booth. After parking, report to the gate and wait there until the guard checks you in and admits you to the trail. You will enter to trail from the pedestrian gate near the booth. 

Due to construction of the new Hurt Family Tennis Center (Opening Summer 2021), the fields and main nature trail loops are temporarily closed. The 6 lit courts will include lines for adult and youth tennis and pickleball. With private and group lessons, camps, clinics, leagues and social tournaments available, everyone at any skill level can enjoy the courts. 


Pool Information

As a necessary step to begin construction on our exciting new Rochelle & Stanley Ferdman Family Aquatic Center, the pool is temporarily closed. By next summer, young families will be playing in our new activities pool with spray features, dumping buckets, water tables and slides. Older children and adventurous adults will enjoy two additional large slides. The new main pool will have a much larger shallow area and the ability to rotate lap swimming directions. A new snack bar stocked with food from local vendors will have something for everyone so families and friends can spend the day at the pool. 

Health and Safety Protocols

You are the first line of defense in keeping our community healthy.

Health Screening by Safety Ambassador

All members and staff will be asked to have their temperature checked, complete a brief health questionnaire, and provide their reservation confirmation before entering the building.

If you have a fever of 100.4 or higher or you answer yes to any of the questions, you will not be permitted to enter the building. Members will be able to request a retake of their temperature if the reading seems inaccurate.  You can return when you have been fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for 72 hours.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or otherwise feel unwell, we ask that you stay home.


  • Indoor spaces: All staff and members will be required to wear masks while indoors. Social distance does not preclude the necessity of wearing a mask. 
  • Outdoor spaces: Masks are not required, but members should keep 6 feet of space from one another at all times. 


Sanitizing Standards

After using equipment, members will be asked to clean it with Virex disinfectant wipes provided by the JCC. 


Staff will clean throughout the day, including 20-minute deep cleanings three times a day.

Adults & Children
We will limit exposure by keeping indoor adult and child activities separate. Families who sign up space must be part of the same membership unit and should remain together.

Can I bring a guest?
Due to the pandemic, the Sports & Fitness Complex and programs are open to active members only. If you know someone who would like to join, CLICK HERE.

Can I use the locker rooms and other amenities?
During construction, members will have access to the restrooms in the community hallway.

Towel service, ball checkout, and locks are temporarily suspended. Please bring your own towels and equipment. Leave bulky bags in your car or at home. We will have small cubbies available for personal items like keys or small purses.  

When can I play basketball and pickleball?

Are the Early Childhood Program or Kids Connection Open? 

Yes! Not only have the ECP and our elementary afterschool care program resumed normal operations, but we are also offering an all-day program for elementary children not yet returning to in-person school. Learn more at shalomaustin.org/alldayatthej.


When will the JCC be open longer? 

We will expand our hours of operation as it becomes safe and reasonable to do so.
