We invite you to join us virtually for our educational electives to delve deeper into the meaning of Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day), and our community ceremony to commemorate those who lost their lives in the struggle that led to the establishment of the State of Israel and all military personnel who were killed while in active duty in Israel’s armed forces.

Yom HaZikaron 101
Rabbi Rebecca Reice | Congregation Shir Ami
Come for a basic introduction to this modern Jewish holiday. We will have an opportunity to reflect on the brief history of Yom HaZikaron and learn the full name for the holiday. Reading a classic Hebrew poem together will deepen our appreciation of how Israeli society has seen this holiday for decades.
On Edge: The Story of a Lone Soldier
Max Levin | Jewish National Fund (JNF)
Join this session with Jewish National Fund to hear from Lone Soldier Max Levin as he speaks about his experiences as a part of the Special Forces Unit of a Israel Defense Forces during Operation Protective Edge in 2014. Max will share about his team’s mission and the fateful day when his unit was ambushed, resulting in the deaths of four members of his tzevet (team) and another 18 wounded soldiers – including Max himself. After he shares his story and the importance and emotion of Yom HaZikaron, Max will take questions from the audience about this operation, lone soldiers, memorial day, and making aliyah as an American Jew.
