In May, Shalom Austin Women’s Philanthropy transitioned leadership and is thrilled to welcome Robin Davis as the new Chair for the 2021-2023 term. A big thanks to Phil Loewy for her service over the past two years.

Robin is joined by the Women’s Philanthropy Committee, comprised of an impressive group of over 50 leaders whose intent is to foster connection for all women in the Austin community. They plan a variety of social, philanthropic, volunteer, and educational opportunities.

There is also a focus on philanthropy as it takes financial resources to provide programming and services. No matter if one gives at the $18 level or $18,000, Women’s Philanthropy wants to emphasize that all women have a space and influence. The most fiscally invested and inspired individuals unite through Giving Societies. These philanthropic leaders deepen their connection and make a great impact through the power of the collective. Women or households that give $1,800-$4,999 enthusiastically join the Pomegranate Society. Women or households that contribute $5,000+ become proud members of the Lion of Judah society. These societies are engaged throughout the year with special events and other meaningful touchpoints.

Women’s Philanthropy strives to provide a variety of experiences so community members are able to attend programs of interest to them. Whether it’s a L’dor V’dor Ladies learning opportunity discussing the five senses through a Jewish lens, a chance to laugh with local comedians Mashley during a social Ladies Night (Out) In, or a meaningful morning Coffee & Conversation featuring Dr. Kim Schocket on the importance of wellness, WP aims to have something for everyone.

One big takeaway from Schocket’s recent presentation is by reflecting on self-care and personal wellness, other aspects of life can be boosted. A great starting point is the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. One should look at these items listed below as though they are on a scale of 1-10. If any area is less than a 7, one is encouraged to think of ways to improve. Be sure to check in with yourself and evaluate.

Areas include intellectual, emotional, physical, social, occupational, financial, environmental, and spiritual. Another interesting factoid is that 50% of a person’s overall happiness and state of being is determined by genetics, 10% by the surrounding environment, and that leaves 40% to play with and dictate for oneself. These 8 Dimensions of Wellness can enhance a happy and positive 40%.

As WP looks at the year ahead, they will navigate a hybrid virtual and in-person world that builds community with newcomers and women who have been here for many years. More programs coming soon!
