The Dell JCC has entered an exciting new phase of the Generations project with newly opened outdoor spaces and facilities dedicated to enriching the community experience – Judy Waxman Meditation Garden, Sue & Jerry Kline Tennis and Outdoor Pro Shop, and Reuben & “Etsy” Kogut Terrace. Made possible through generous donations, these additions honor the legacy of their namesakes, celebrating a shared vision for innovation and connection.

Judy Waxman Meditation Garden

Designed as a serene retreat in memory of community leader, philanthropist and Generations Campaign Co-Chair Judy Waxman (z”l), the peaceful 37,100 square-foot Judy Waxman Meditation Garden offers comfortable seating areas for relaxation, reflection, and a chance to enjoy nature. Conveniently connected to the Garber Family Nature Trail and the new Matthew & Lori Steinberg Healing Trail, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a workout or simply take a moment to recharge.

“Judy was a longtime fundraising professional and successful business owner. She served as co-chair of the Generations Campaign, advancing the vision of the Dell Jewish Community Campus and was awarded the prestigious Woman of Valor Award at Mosaic in 2015. Judy’s presence will be felt on the Dell Jewish Community Campus for generations to come thanks to her sacred and holy work and this beautiful garden,” said Shalom Austin CEO Rabbi Daniel A. Septimus.

“The Judy  Waxman  Meditation Garden was lovingly built in honor of Judy Waxman (z”l).  Our goal was to create a sanctuary for the spirit—a place where the Jewish community of Austin may come together for reflection, prayer

and celebration. Whether it be for a quiet moment on the yoga lawn or reading rocks, a picnic under the porte-cochere or a game of hide & seek with your family, we hope you love the garden as much as we do!” said the Waxman-Grill family.

The Waxman Meditation Garden is open to Dell JCC members, visitors by appointment, and is available to rent for private events. It’s located next to the Krasoff Jewish Family Service Building and is accessible via the trail (near Austin Jewish Academy).

Sue & Jerry Kline Tennis and Outdoor Pro Shop

The new Sue & Jerry Kline Tennis and Outdoor Pro Shop at the Dell JCC opened in June 2024. Located conveniently next to the Hurt Family Tennis Center, the Sue & Jerry Kline Pro Shop offers a wide range of high-quality tennis and pickleball gear, including rackets, paddles, balls and re-stringing services.

“The new Sue & Jerry Kline Tennis and Outdoor Pro Shop is a meaningful retail addition to the Dell JCC that supports our members, teams, athletes and families. This shop fosters a deeper sense of pride and connection for our community. Thank you to David Kline and his family for this exciting new store and office space,” said Shalom Austin CEO Rabbi Daniel A. Septimus.

“I’m proud to name the Sue & Jerry Kline Tennis and Outdoor Pro Shop after my parents as a way of honoring their legacy of family and community.  It’s our way of giving back and continuing their commitment to making a lasting, positive impact. This shop is a resource for the community to provide access to equipment and services needed to support their games, to stay active and come together through the love of sports,” said David Kline.

The Sue & Jerry Kline Pro Shop is open to Dell JCC members and visitors and its hours are Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Reuben & “Etsy” Kogut Terrace

The Reuben & “Etsy” Kogut Terrace is a new outdoor space at the Dell JCC for hosting private gatherings like weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, other celebrations and more. Children and adults in various departments at Shalom Austin will also benefit from the new spaces and program opportunities provided by the Kogut Terrace.

With a spacious terrace, covered stage, stunning views, and a flexible layout, the Kogut Terrace is designed to make every event memorable and unique.

“This event space is an important part of our mission, helping to generate essential revenue for Shalom Austin and supporting our work in the community. When you rent or visit, you’re helping fund our programs and strengthen our impact,” said Shalom Austin CEO Rabbi Daniel A. Septimus.

“I’m thrilled to support the creation of this terrace, named in honor of my beloved parents, as a space for the entire community to gather, celebrate, and connect. It’s a privilege to contribute to something that will not only enhance the beauty and functionality of the Dell JCC but also serve as a sustainable source of revenue. It’s a way for my parents’ legacy to continue helping others and building a strong, sustainable community for years to come,” said Karen Kogut.

The Kogut Terrace is now available to rent for private events.
