Reflecting on a year of online programming, Shalom Austin Women’s Philanthropy leaders feel a sense of pride and connection like never before. While WP cannot wait to be in person with everyone again as soon as possible, organizers feel accomplished by their efforts over the past 12 months.

WP adapted with the times like everyone had to and made the most of the situation. From shifting everything online, adding additional programs throughout the summer, and shifting volunteer efforts to accommodate safety, they continued to keep community at the forefront of their minds.

In February, WP hosted the Campaign Kickoff, launching the Annual Campaign with a solid start for 2021. This program, The Gift of Community, focused on how important everyone is to one another. Sentiments shared throughout the program emphasized that everything comes down to the idea that community is home and community is like family.

Guest speaker Lisa Friedman Clark shared her local Shalom Austin story (about her Federation) and how they were there for her at times when she needed them the most. She walked the fine line between donor and recipient and is now an active leader in her Jewish community, as she has been for many years.

Judy Waxman, of blessed memory, was remembered through a lovely tribute her daughter, Molly Grill, passionately delivered. Waxman lived life with passion for family, friends and community. She gave her all to Shalom Austin to ensure a strong Jewish community will remain in Central Texas for generations to come.

WP is grateful to have 2021 begin with The Gift of Community because this can be the theme for the year. Anyone new to town — and anyone who has been in Austin for years — who is looking for connection, please let WP leadership know; leaders want to help introduce others to more people. While location has no boundaries during these COVID times, WP hopes to maximize the group’s reach now and once the group can meet in person again.
