Shalom Austin’s Women’s Philanthropy held a Lion of Judah and Pomegranate Society Campaign Kickoff on February 26. The evening brought together 100 dedicated giving society women and featured Zack Bodner, CEO of the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto, California. Bodner shared insightful words about the future of Jews in the diaspora. Bodner said, “My grandparents went to the JCC because they were Jewish. My grandchildren will be Jewish because they went to the JCC.”

Lion of Judah Co-Chairs Katie Dochen, Heilla Lain and Patti Sokol, and Pomegranate Co-Chairs, Stephanie Saur and Lynne Stein began the evening with a philanthropic update and welcomed the newest Lion of Judah and Pomegranate Society women. Marianne Rochelle celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Shalom Austin Jewish Foundation. After Bodner’s remarks, Women’s Philanthropy Co-Chair Frances Meltzer shared her inspiring Jewish journey while calling on attendees to renew their support of Shalom Austin’s Annual Campaign. Outgoing Women’s Philanthropy Co-Chair Jill Graham closed out the event and guests were invited to mingle and enjoy the delicious Kosher-fare catered by Gail’s Catering.

Now with more than 220 Pomegranates and 187 Lions, the Austin Jewish community is thriving. Women who give $1,800-$4,999 are invited to join the Pomegranate Society, while women who contribute $5,000+ become proud Lions of Judah, an internationally recognized society of more than 18,000 Lions. These societies are engaged throughout the year with special events and other meaningful touch points.

Women’s Philanthropy strives to provide a variety of experiences so community members can attend social, educational and volunteer programs of interest to them. There is something for everyone. Women of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend women’s events during the year.
