Chef Josh Scherer brought his hit YouTube series “Last Meals” to SXSW on March 13 for a live taping. Scherer turned a heavy question into a funny, heartfelt conversation about how food connects all. He was joined on stage by internet creators Tefi Pessoa, Elyse Myers, and viral food reviewer Keith Lee. Together, the group answered the ultimate question: “If it were your last day on Earth, what would your final meal be?”
Scherer and his guests didn’t pick fancy, expensive restaurants. Instead, they built their dream menus around the comfort foods that shaped their lives. As they walked through their favorite appetizers, entrees, and desserts, the dishes covered a wide mix of cultures and childhood memories. Scherer often highlights his own Jewish heritage and traditional foods in his work. During the panel, he talked about how the foods that are craved most are tied to one’s roots and families.
The crowd laughed as the conversation turned into a lively debate over dessert. The panelists went back and forth defending simple childhood sweets versus modern treats, proving that everyone takes their desserts very seriously.
The live session showed exactly why “Last Meals” is so popular online. Scherer proved that food is never just about eating. It is a strong link to memory and traditions.
