BEGED KEFET HEBREW LANGUAGE SCHOOL

Beged Kefet is an afterschool program for children in grades K–12 that teaches the modern, spoken Hebrew language and Israeli culture in a fun and engaging way. Students can begin their journey to learn Hebrew in Kitat Gan and continue with Beged Kefet all the way through accredited high school classes.

Hebrew (Language): Strengthening and improving Hebrew language skills across the four core competencies—reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This is achieved through experiential and diverse learning that covers general topics as well as Israeli and Jewish culture. The curricula are modern, up-to-date, and supported by carefully selected textbooks and digital teaching tools.

Community (Values/Social): “Beged Kefet” strengthens the Israeli and Jewish community by observing holidays, organizing Kabbalat Shabbat and holiday ceremonies, and hosting family parties that integrate curriculum content. We believe that “Beged Kefet” allows our children to experience Israeli and Jewish culture while preserving and improving their linguistic assets.

21st Century Skills (Knowledge and Skills): “Beged Kefet” encourages students to develop essential modern skills, such as collaboration, linguistic and technological literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and more.

תכנית מנהיגות ישראלית נכתבה על ידי צוות בגד כפת במטרה להכיר לתלמידנו את מנהיגיה הדגולים של ישראל ואת האירועים ההיסטוריים לפני ואחרי קום המדינה אשר הובילו, ובתוך כך השפיעו על גורל האומה. במסגרת התוכנית ילמדו התלמידים על מורשתם ופועלם של מנהיגים ומנהיגות מעצבי פני החברה והמדינה. כפועל יוצא מכך, התוכנית מעודדת שייכות, חיבור לחברה ולקהילה הישראלית והיהודית. התוכנית מאפשרת חשיפה למושגים בתחום המנהיגות, הבנת הקשר בין האירועים, קשרי סיבה

במסגרת הנושא יעסקו התלמידים בחשיבות של מעורבות ואחריות כלפי הקהילה בקרבה אנו חיים, יפתחו חשיבה ביקורתית כלפי המציאות החברתית והסביבתית המקיפה אותם. הם יתמקדו ביחידת לימוד בשיתוף פרויקט “הקשר הרב דורי” של המשרד הממשלתי לשוויון חברתי ו”אנו – מוזיאון העם היהודי“. במסגרת יחידת “הקשר הרב דורי” ירחיבו התלמידים על המושג ‘קהילה’ ומשמעותו, ויכירו את אוכלוסיית הגיל השלישי. כחלק מהפרויקט המסכם של השנה, כל זוג תלמידים/ות יראיין חבר/ת קהילה וותיקים ויתעד את סיפור חייהם. כהכנה לפרויקט ילמדו התלמידים מיומנויות ראיון, כתיבה ועריכה. הפרויקט מחבר בין צעירים לוותיקים בקהילה, ומתוך סיפורי החיים,

Our middle school classes are designed for students in grades 6–8 who already have a foundation in Hebrew reading and writing. Placement in the appropriate class is based on an assessment completed either at the end of 5th grade within Beged Kefet or upon enrollment.

In addition, we offer a middle school class for beginning readers. Placement in this group is determined based on a level assessment.

Instruction continues to focus on developing Hebrew language proficiency across all four domains—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—while integrating Israeli cultural content through a wide range of texts and topics relevant to students’ lives.

One of the program’s central goals is to create a meaningful social framework for youth with shared backgrounds and interests. Students celebrate Jewish holidays together, participate in age-appropriate workshops, and are given opportunities to take initiative and lead.

The curriculum also serves as preparation for high school programs, including those that may offer credit toward foreign language requirements. Classes meet once a week for 1.5 hours.

The middle school program is built around three core pillars:

• 21st-century skills and knowledge

Throughout the school year, students strengthen their Hebrew language abilities through exposure to diverse and increasingly complex texts. They develop deeper comprehension, expand their linguistic knowledge, and work toward confident and functional use of Hebrew.

Beged Kefet places strong emphasis on identity development during these formative years. The program includes age-appropriate content designed to support students in exploring their personal identity and sense of belonging in a meaningful and engaging way.

Identity & Belonging
Focus on adolescence and Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Students participate in a unique program developed by Beged Kefet that explores themes such as social circles, roles, gender, and Jewish-Israeli identity.

Beged Kefet is proud to collaborate with ANU – The Museum of the Jewish People (formerly Beit Hatfutsot) as part of the international My Family Story program. This initiative guides students from around the world as they approach their Bar/Bat Mitzvah in creating a meaningful project about their family roots and heritage.

Israeli Leadership

This program, developed by the Beged Kefet team, introduces students to key Israeli leaders and major historical events before and after the establishment of the State of Israel.

Students explore the legacy and impact of these leaders, strengthening their understanding of Israeli society and history. The program fosters a sense of belonging and connection to the Israeli and Jewish community while building knowledge of leadership concepts, cause-and-effect relationships, and historical thinking. The program concludes with a student research project.

Community Engagement – Intergenerational Connection

Students explore the importance of responsibility and active involvement in their community, while developing critical thinking about the social and environmental realities around them.

As part of this theme, students participate in a unit developed in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Social Equality and ANU – The Museum of the Jewish People, focused on intergenerational connections.

Students deepen their understanding of the concept of “community” and engage with members of the older generation. As part of a culminating project, pairs of students interview a senior community member and document their life story.

In preparation, students learn interviewing, writing, and editing skills. This project creates meaningful connections between generations while helping students appreciate history through personal narratives and recognize the value of every individual story.
