ABOUT OUR PUBLICATIONS
The Jewish Outlook is the only Jewish newspaper in Austin, Texas, providing local, national and international news of interest to the Austin Jewish community. It is published by Shalom Austin. The newspaper is published four times per year in March, July, September and December.
Jewish Austin: A Guide to Jewish Living in Central Texas is a comprehensive guide to the local Jewish community in Austin and Central Texas, for current residents, newcomers and those considering a move to the area. Jewish Austin magazine now includes two special sections for older adults and for simchas (celebrations).

Editorial Submission Guidelines
Follow these tips and guidelines while writing your stories for our publications.
DEADLINES
All submissions for the following month’s newspaper must be submitted no later than the 10th of the month.
If the 10th should fall on the weekend or holiday, deadlines move back to the Friday or last business day before the weekend or holiday.
Submit stories, Mazel Tovs and photographs using this submission form.
STORY FORMAT
All submissions for consideration as feature stories should follow the basic “inverted pyramid” format – consisting of a lead sentence that includes who, what, when, where, why and how. More information on the inverted pyramid style can be found here.
All submissions accepted for publication are subject to editing for length, accuracy, clarity and conformity to The Jewish Outlook.
ASSOCIATED PRESS (AP) STYLE
Basic punctuation and grammar for all submissions should follow the AP Style handbook. Holidays and Hebrew words will be stylized by the editor (so don’t worry too much about it).
Stories should be written in third-person narrative (he, she, it, they) and not first-person (we, I) or second-person (you).
Stories must be factual; no opinion pieces will be published.
Include the author’s first and last name who wrote the article or submission.
Organizational event dates and times should be submitted in full. Event dates submitted without all information included (who, what, when, where, (why and how are optional) will not be printed.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Photos that accompany all submissions should arrive with an informative caption. Names included in the caption should be full, with correctly spelled names identifying the subjects left to right.
If there is a photo credit needed, that information must also be submitted.
Images should be provided in JPG or TIF format at a minimum of 200 dpi.
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES
We are unable to accommodate placement requests.
We do not pay for submissions.
We regret that we are unable to personally respond to everyone, but we do read all submissions.

Ads must meet size requiments on the rate sheet.
Borders are required, except bleed ads.
Do not include margins, crop marks or registration marks. Turn off color management.
Ads should be submitted by email as a PDF (at 300 dpi, with all fonts embedded).
All color ads and artwork must be submitted as CMYK (not RGB). All black-and-white ads must be submitted as grayscale.
All ads and insertions are subject to publisher approval.
Do not use text or color type under 10 points.
Our printer’s press has a 30% dot gain.

The Jewish Outlook will not publish political advertisements that do not comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
We reserve the right to not accept an ad we deem inappropriate. The Jewish Outlook does not take a position nor endorse any paid advertisement for a candidate or their supporters that appear in The Jewish Outlook.
The Jewish Outlook follows the guidelines of the Federal Election Commission and requires advertisers to adhere to these guidelines: https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/making-disbursements/advertising/
We are reassessing our policies for political advertisements following the 2018 elections and will post any updates to our policy moving forward on this site.

Nonprofit rates are 25% off of non-contract rates. Nonprofit rates donot apply for special ad positions.
Cost for inserts (based on over 8,000) is $300 for insertion only. We can also print your insert. Consult with Shana Creeger at shana.creeger@shalomaustin.org. These prices are subject to change.
The Jewish Outlook reserves the right to refuse advertising that could be perceived as inappropriate for its readers.
