Descendants of Holocaust survivors have an important voice in countering hate and antisemitism and keeping the history of the Holocaust relevant in today’s world. With few Holocaust survivors left to tell their stories, it is the responsibility of the next generations to tell of their family’s experiences in their own unique voices.
The Descendants of Holocaust Survivors in Central Texas is holding a four-part speaker’s training program beginning this month, where the children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors will be empowered to learn about their family history and how to share stories of their family’s Holocaust experiences with students and community groups. The first two sessions will be held on March 17 and April 6; subsequent dates will be arranged.
Guest speakers include Sandy Lessig and Hy Penn, long-time volunteers, board members, and docents with the Houston Holocaust Museum; Dr. J.E. Wolfson, State Coordinator of Education for the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Commission; and Steve Fintel and others from the planning committee of the Descendants of Holocaust Survivors in Central Texas.
The training is free, and only open to children (Second Generation) and grandchildren (third generation) of survivors. The goal is to prepare a cadre of trained speakers to make presentations in our community.
