Every year, volunteers with Shalom Austin Women’s Philanthropy dedicate their time and pour their hearts into helping create meaningful experiences at the Inspired Aging holiday luncheons. The luncheons, which occur around Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Hanukkah, are one of the many examples of the relationship between Women’s Philanthropy volunteers and Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service.

While a majority of the volunteer activity takes place the evening before and the day of each luncheon, those who serve as event chairs begin their work much earlier. This year, the Hanukkah Luncheon Co-Chairs are Keri Stern and Danielle Hackmey. Hackmey says being a co-chair for the Inspired Aging Hanukkah Luncheon requires a lot of collaboration, creativity and a desire to make someone’s holiday meaningful.

“There is a lot of thought put into making the event feel special. From the decor to the food, to the programming, a lot of thought and effort goes into making the event warm and welcoming. I think the unity you feel in the room is a really special thing. It is a very positive and joyful event, which is how a holiday should feel,” Hackmey said.

Hackmey says that what moves her to volunteer with Women’s Philanthropy is the community and support of Jewish women which is a powerful thing. “It is inspiring to witness the energy, efforts, creativity, and unity that WP brings to the wider community. Where there is a need, someone finds a way to help with compassion and kindness while raising awareness in the broader community.”

The Sunday before the Inspired Aging Hanukkah Luncheon, Women’s Philanthropy volunteers worked together at the Hanukkah Wrap to wrap gifts for Jewish Family Service clients.
