Shalom Austin Women’s Philanthropy kicked off the 2026 Campaign by welcoming members of the Lion of Judah and Pomegranate Societies to an inspiring evening at the Dell JCC. Hosted by Lion Co-Chairs, Jennifer Failla and Mae Levitan, and Pomegranate Co-Chairs, Lauren Patten and Beth Sher, the event brought together more than 120 Lions and Pomegranates to celebrate community, connection and the collective power of women’s philanthropy.
The Jennifer & David Kaufman Family Living Room was transformed into an intimate, candle-lit lounge – an inviting setting designed to spark conversation and reflection. Guests enjoyed thoughtful touches throughout the evening, including a curated wine bar, and delicious bites by 512 Boutique Events, before settling in for a powerful program centered on dialogue, leadership, and impact.
The evening featured a meaningful conversation between Chair of the Israel and Jewish Peoplehood Committee Debbie Rudy, and Emmy Award–winning host and New York Times bestselling author Emmanuel Acho. Drawing from his work co-authoring “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Jew” alongside Noa Tishby, Acho spoke candidly about the importance of leaning into honest, sometimes uncomfortable conversations. He reminded guests that these moments, while challenging, are often the ones that build bridges, deepen understanding, and empower us to stand up for what is right.
His message resonated deeply with the Lions and Pomegranates in the room, whose philanthropy reflects a shared commitment to courage, compassion, and leadership. Through their generosity, these women help strengthen Jewish life in Austin, support Israel. Through their generosity, these women help strengthen Jewish life in Austin, support Israel, and create lasting impact around the world.
The kickoff marked not only the beginning of a new campaign year, but also an exciting milestone. Building on early campaign commitments, Shalom Austin has already raised more than $1.3 million toward its $3.95 million 2026 goal.
