In Shared Memory: An Evening of Reflection

September 4 | 7:15-8:15 PM

Join Shalom Austin’s Community Chaplain, Rabbi Amy Cohen and JFS’ Grief and Loss Therapists, Maura Kinney and Audrey Burnett, along with local Austin clergy in a gathering to remember those who have died by suicide. Weather permitting, the gathering will be in the Waxman Meditation Garden and will include music, meditation, and ritual to mark the unique gravity of this loss. Whether the person you are grieving was a family member, friend, or shared community member, and whether they died recently or years ago, all are welcome.

AJFF Film Screening for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

AJFF Film Screening & Panel Discussion

Join AJFF and Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service on this special event for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. This compelling documentary features Ezra’s own art and music as well as deeply personal interviews with Ezra’s family, friends, and teachers. The program features an AJFF interview with Ezra’s mother, Shanee Epstein. The screening will be following by a panel discussion of mental health experts. Please join us for this important program, and help destigmatize the discussion of suicide and suicidal ideation.

Join Shalom Austin staff at various locations across the Dell JCC campus to reach out to someone in your life and let them know you care. Our Caring Contacts stations will have cards available or you can send a text or make a call to a loved one. By reaching out to others and spreading messages of hope and care, every person can be a part of preventing suicide.

Teen Mental Health First Aid Training

 September 14, 28 & October 5 |  3:00-4:30 PM

Individuals in grades 9-12 are invited to join JFS and BBYO for a three-part training led by Dr. Alyssa Gilden and Amanda Mills, LCSW-S to empower them to provide support to their friends and classmates and be better able to cope with mental health challenges themselves.
Participants will earn six hours of volunteer time and a receive a certificate upon completion of all three sessions.
